The next meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement/UNESCO – Paris Chapter was held
The second meeting in 2022 of the Non-Aligned Movement/UNESCO – Paris Chapter, chaired by Azerbaijan, was held at the UNESCO headquarters.
The meeting, chaired by Azerbaijan's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Elman Abdullayev, was attended by Maki Katsuno-Hayashikawa, Director of the Division of Education 2030 Support and Coordination, Education Sector of UNESCO, as well as ambassadors and permanent delegates of the Member States of the Non-Aligned Movement to UNESCO.
Following the adoption of the Agenda, Permanent Delegate Elman Abdullayev announced that the 9th Session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage is ahead of us and using the opportunity, he wished all success to the States, running for the membership in the ICH Committee.
Noting the problems sourced by the pandemic, new endemic disease, the climate crisis, hostilities around the world, he said that the problems of the humanity never end.
He also emphasized the social inequality, gender equality and the problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Permanent Delegate said that education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world. Today, equal access to education must be provided all over the world.
Then, Maki Katsuno-Hayashikawa, Director of the Division of Education 2030 Support and Coordination, Education Sector of UNESCO, spoke about the Transforming Education Summit that will be held in September 2022 at the initiative of the UN Secretary-General as well she gave the latest updates on Pre-Summit to be held in Paris on June 28-30. Afterwards, she answered the questions of the permanent delegations.
The meeting also discussed the activities of the Azerbaijani Presidency since the last meeting of 28 February 2022. The report of the that plenary meeting was also heard and adopted.
The meeting continued with discussions on the candidacies of the Non-Aligned Movement Member States and various issues.
